A presentation of figures on health, nutrition, and population status and service use among people belonging to different economic classes, based on household survey data collected through the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) program.
The figures cover approximately thirty aspects of HNP status and service use. Status indicators include such things as infant and child mortality, malnutrition, and fertility. Among the service use indicators are immunization coverage, medical treatment of diarrhea and acute respiratory illness among children, delivery attendance, and contraceptive prevalence.
For each indicator, the report provides an estimated rate for each quintile of individuals in the population, defined in terms of wealth as measured through an index of household attributes (type of roof, source of water, presence/absence of electricity, etc.) and possessions (such as radio, watch, bicycle/motorcycle/automobile).
The report is one in a series of forty-five country reports. Other reports in the series may be found at: http://www1.worldbank.org/prem/poverty/health/data/round1_countries.htm
