Peter Lanjouw, and Luc Christiaensen

A one-day PRSP workshop was organized by the Government of Madagascar in collaboration with the World Bank. This rural poverty workshop was part of an ongoing effort to prepare a full PRSP and aimed to advance the articulation of the rural development strategy, one of the pillars of the overall poverty reduction strategy in Madagascar. The workshop was well attended by both technical specialists and senior officials from the 7 ministries in Madagascar that are associated with rural development (agriculture, fisheries, forestry, livestock, science and research, transport, environment). Also participating were a large number of representatives from the local academic and donor community in Madagascar.
